This newsletter is your special invitation to the biggest art event in

Midtown Houston:The annual Midtown Visions Cultural Arts Tour is

Saturday, April 10, noon until 5 PM. My studio and all the other art

studios at Art Square will be open. We are inside Art Supply on Main.

2711 Main at Dennis...between Elgin & Gray on the EAST side of Main.

I am in studio #114, at the end of the downstairs hall. There is plenty

of parking for our guests in Art Supply parking lot. If you enjoy art,

this event is a visual treat, with lots of art, artists, styles, sizes, &

subjects to tempt you. A beautiful spring day will let you view my

work in the natural light of my wondrous creative studio. I'll be playing

the music that inspires me...softly, so we can still visit. With

graduations, weddings and other events coming, I know you will want

to get ideas and perhaps gifts. Maybe even something for yourself.

I've made lots of collage cards worthy of acknowledging a special

event...and beautiful enough to frame. Small paintings are perfect

gifts for special  people. And one of my larger paintings might be the

perfect accessory for that empty wall in your home.  I hope that you

will take advantage of this opportunity to visit artists in the spaces

where they create their art. I ESPECIALLY hope that you will visit

me in MY studio to see my newest creations.

April 5, 2010                                   Press Release

For Immediate Release

NAVASOTA-  Blues Music will once again fill the streets of Navasota, Texas on April 10th as Navasota Blues Alley celebrates the birthday of Navasota’s long deceased “songster,” Mance Lipscomb.  Concert promoters recall nearly forgotten days when the legendary Lipscomb and Blind Willie Johnson used to busk on Washington Avenue, and several blues bands have been invited to come remind the Brazos Valley of its music heritage.  The shows start at 2:00 Saturday and feature Texas Johnny Boy, Rich Delgrosso and Don Kesee, who are slated to set up on an old bridge behind the historic downtown, right over Cedar Creek.

Touting “Blues, Barbeque and Bluebonnets,” Blues Alley also features an art gallery and blues museum that illustrate the rich blues history unique to Navasota and the surrounding area.  And the people of Navasota plan much more.  Recently the Navasota City Council designated a city park near downtown as Mance Lipscomb Park, where the free blues concert will be held, and a bronze sculpture of the nationally known bluesman is hoped to be commissioned to be placed there.  An alley that leads to the park has been officially named Blues Alley.  Officially designated by the Texas State Legislature as the “Blues Capital of Texas,” Navasota has finally taken steps to honor its most famous son, who is credited as one of Texas’ most important blues musicians.

Artists and craftsmen have been invited to demonstrate as well to give the event a cultural feel, and showcase the wealth of talent in the area. Local Black artists Leon Collins, Molly Bee and David Woods, all whose works have an undeniable kinship to blues, will be there to show their works and lend authenticity to the event.
