Our January 2011 demo will be presented by Portia Bell. We will meet, as usual, at the Villagio Town Center Commons Areas (next to Kids Adventure Zone) at 10 am on Saturday, January 15, 2011. Portia Bell has won numerous competitions and awards for her nature inspired and imaginative paintings in watercolor, gouache and inks. The demonstration of some of her techniques will include an opportunity for the audience to experiment with capturing rich colors and configurations on Yupo paper. The demo is free and open to the public.
From the Artist: Natures palette of colors, abstract shapes and patterns are my source for inspirational paintings. Watercolor, gouache and inks form the basis for my work. An initial wash of intense color provides the fundamental core of the painting. I work spontaneously and let the paint do its thing and the resulting color, configurations, etc. activate my imagination and suggest a subject. Using fragments of pre-formed images, textures is added with found objects. The shapes are reconfigured into seemingly random patterns. I love the freedom of this method and the excitement of the response to what is happening. My goal is to capture the viewer's attention with my rich detail and tapestry of color.
Portia Bell has won numerous competitions and awards. She is represented in a few Galleries and has many wonderful dear clients. Portia is currently Education Director at the Watercolor Art Society of Houston, and I am currently teaching at W-ASH.
